Big Heart Ministries is a mother/daughter team. Mandy (B.A.Wits) writes and illustrates the stories. Cara (B.A. Human and Social Sciences, UNISA) researches and suggests suitable topics to cover, edits the writing, and designs and maintains the website.
Mandy is foremost an artist and photographer, and believes in communicating through media other than film and television. She believes that too often children gravitate towards film and television offerings that dumb them down, stifle creativity, diminish imagination and offer instant entertainment with no input from the child. Rarely is any lasting message or value communicated.
We use the vehicle of stories to convey important messages about the state of the family (traditional and one-parent) and to provide thought provoking content. Children need more encouragement, guidance and input from positive role models than ever before.
Our stories are designed to be read in quiet time, to promote parent/child interaction and to introduce the child to a medium other than television, one that engenders closeness and open communication.
