Art and the abundance of life?
I enjoy working in pencil, watercolour, chalk pastels and oil paint; and find the qualities of each medium determine the ‘feel’ of the finished work.Lately I have been experimenting with acrylic and love the way it dries fast and gives clear colour. I studied 3 years of Fine Art at Wits, and completed a BA, but am basically self taught.
I use many of my finished works in illustrations for the books I write, they give me inspiration. I love experimenting with mixed media – investigating texture and surfaces, manipulating reality.
Spending time out in the bush is my favourite occupation, and I love to draw from nature and from photographs I have taken to capture the moment. My Photos have been used in local publications (Ingwelala calendar).
I have many different styles, depending on what topic I am working on and how relaxed I feel about painting it. Some have been done as commissions – I sell at outdoor exhibitions but haven’t cracked a gallery yet? That’s why my work is a bargain!
